adventures in nature

About

I am a San Francisco Bay Area based nature wanderer, tracker, photographer, writer, artist, and truth seeker. My interactions and observations in nature have been a source of fun, excitement, strength, learning, unification and healing, and I hope to share some of that with the world – my journeys outside have helped create and support an inward journey that has allowed me to become closer to my truth and who I am. Enjoy!!

In March 2014, a black hawk landed on our front yard underneath the bird feeders. Had no idea what this was until I checked my Audubon Book. He stayed for quite a wile, I actually sat with him and just watched. I then went through the back yard, as not to disturb him and got my camera. He was still there and able to get 3 good pictures.
Saw this article, I think this might be a sibling of them, pure black in front, partial yellow cere, yellow talons, back black with rust shoulder patch. One of my picture does show a band on his rt. foot. He then flew to a fence a few feet away where I got the picture of his back side. I was so ecstatic to find this article and verify my finding, my bird friend. We are in Sebastopol, ca

    • That is wonderful, nice! If it was the full plumage black hawk, then it was likely the adult female that has been living in the area. To my knowledge it’s the only one in the area that has a band (besides this year’s fledgling – but it would not have been born yet in Mar ’14). Of course anything is possible! Thanks for writing in to mention it. I’d be curious to know how close you are to the laguna.

    • Interesting – not very close to where I usually see them. I’d love to see the pics if you’d like to share, I’ll send you an email. Thanks Lynette!
